temple menorah, 9363 N. 76th St., will open its annual six-day sale on July 28, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The synagogue donates all remaining assets and donates proceeds from the event to its social action committee, to be used for efforts such as community events and food distribution.
Fundraising takes up almost the entire building and attracts hundreds of patrons every day.
“It’s a huge undertaking. It takes months to set up. But it’s great fun. Rabbi Gil Ezer Lerer said. The congregation begins preparing for the sale in February, categorizing bags of clothing and answering phone calls throughout the year. “We have been doing this for thirty years. The reputation in the area is huge,” Lerer said.
Lerer listed a range of items that can be seen at the clearance sale: boats, cars, trucks, jungle gyms, outdoor furniture, books, appliances and Judaica. “Everyone needs a good deal,” Lerer said. With free admission, the sale attracts members of the congregation, schools looking for gear, summer camps looking for sporting goods and others from the wider community.
