Jakarta (ANTARA) – Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan visited the Bio Hok Tek Tjeng Sin temple on Tuesday in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, and conveyed Chinese New Year greetings to visitors praying at the temple.
“We visit Bio Hok Tek Tjeng Sin to welcome visitors and convey Chinese New Year greetings. Gong Xi Fa Cai (may you have a prosperous year),” Baswedan said at Bio Hok Teng Tjeng Sin Temple in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, on Tuesday.
The governor expressed hope that a new spirit and energy to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic will develop in the year of the Water Tiger (Chinese calendar system).
Chinese New Year is a celebration of unity and solidarity, as harmony between peoples is achieved through common strength and should be maintained through mutual understanding, said former education minister and Culture.
He expressed his gratitude to the head of the Jakarta branch of the Supreme Council of Confucian Religion in Indonesia (Matakin), Liem Liliany, for his efforts to promote unity and harmony among the people, especially the adherents of the Confucian faith in the province.
“I would also like to express my gratitude to the Temple administrator, as well as Mrs. Liliany who led the Matakin branch in Jakarta for their efforts in maintaining unity and harmony,” Baswedan said. .
The governor also said he wants people to use the new year to spend time with families and relatives.
“It is the tradition that we must keep together. Happy Chinese New Year, we hope our daily activities will be successful and easy,” he remarked.
Meanwhile, Matakin Jakarta branch manager Liliany thanked Baswedan for his surprise visit to the Temple.
“We hope this year of the Water Tiger 2573 Kongzi Li will bring peace for all of us, as it is a difficult year mainly due to the COVID-19 Omicron variant,” she said.
